Planning Investigations Conversation Tool

Through one or more conversations, teachers and students work together to develop a plan for an investigation that will allow them to understand a phenomenon. They consider the relevant aspects of the phenomenon and decide how they will represent those aspects in their investigation. Students participate in making decisions about what to measure and observe as well as what to count as evidence.

This tool has been developed to guide teachers through the process of working with students to develop investigations. It supports you to plan for conversations, provides examples of what you can say or do to support students, and links to related episodes and tools.

In the Investigations Framework, this conversation focuses on helping students navigate uncertainty in the transitions between phenomenon, investigation, and observations in light of what they are trying to figure out.
